Born in Myanmar (Burma), when he was just fourteen-years-old Tun was kidnapped and forced to fish for years without pay as far away as the coast of Somalia. Often working twenty hour days in an accident at sea he lost four fingers on one hand. He was finally able to jump ship and escape on Ambon Island, Indonesia. With no money or passport, no ability to return home, he married a local woman and had a child. He was found and rescued by Patima in 2014. With her assistance he was able to return home to Myanmar and eventually receive compensation for his injuries from the company that had enslaved him; with the money he built his mother a house. He now works alongside Patima and has gained a reputation as a leader in the movement to end slavery at sea.
